(ATR) The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations on Thursday releases a major report on the new challenges facing its members.
The 50-page report is the culmination of a research project, launched in the second quarter of 2018, called the "Future of Global Sport." Government ministers, sports leaders and executives from media giants including Facebook and Lagardère are among influencers from the business world who have contributed to assessing the speed of change impacting sport from political, social, technological and economic influences from 2020 to 2040.
ASOIF executive director Andrew Ryan told Around the Rings earlier this month that the extensive report will plot the challenges facing IFs as well as new trends in the global sporting movement "so they are much better informed on what the top influencers think is around the corner.
"It is designed to show how IFs fit into that landscape and what changes they should be making now to adjust to the future," he said.
The report will highlight concerns in certain areas and offer a series of recommendations to help future-proof federations. Among concerns expected to be cited in the report is the massive number of sporting events cluttering the sporting calendar.
Women's World Cup is 100 Days Away
FIFA marks 100 days to go until the Women’s World Cup kicks off in France on June 7.
Each of the nine host cities is celebrating the milestone with the unveiling of their tournament posters.
The showpiece of the women’s game will feature 24 teams playing 52 games in a tournament that begins with a match between France and South Korea at the Parc des Princes in Paris and ends with the final in Lyon on July 7. The United States is the defending champion.
Individual match tickets will go on sale on the FIFA website on March 7. FIFA says 330,000 tickets have been sold as part of ticket packages, part of the total of 1.3 million tickets available for the event.
Beijing 2022 Venues Host FIS Events
The iconic Bird’s Nest Stadium is hosting the first stage of the FIS Cross-Country Skiing China City Sprint Beijing 2019 on Friday.
The second stage will be at the newly developed Olympic area of Shougang, where the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee is located and the venue for the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard big air competitions during the Games.
The third and final stage will be at Yangqing, site for the 2022 Alpine Skiing and Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton competitions, on Monday.
The cross-country event is part of a trio of International Ski Federation competitions taking place in the space of a week.
Last weekend the FIS Snowboard parallel giant slalom and slalom races took place at the Beijing 2022 venue Secret Garden. This Saturday and Sunday the FIS Freestyle Skiing aerials competition will take place at Beidahu Ski Resort.
