(ATR) Athletes from 29 countries will participate in the Ready Steady Tokyo test event this week at the Yumenoshima Archery Field.

The venue is located within the Yumenoshima district in Koto and will be used next year for the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The test event will be closed for spectators and will be the only time for athletes, coaches and organizers for the games to have a true feel for the space before next year’s Games. Other test events in Tokyo will follow a similar approach to hold down costs and reduce the complications that come with crowd control.

During the Olympics, the Yumenoshima venue will hold 5,600 spectators.

As the test event is the first time for the venue to be used in competition, for many of the archers this will be their first time on the range.

Yumenoshima Park Archery Field was the first of the Games new venues to be completed, and after the games will serve as the center for Japanese archery tournaments and workshops.

"I hope the athletes enjoy themselves. I hope I get positive and negative feedback for next year. Today’s weather is good because I was expecting hot weather but it’s turned out to be cloudy." said Tokyo 2020 sports manager Yuko Okura.

Ready Steady Tokyo will include individual and mixed team competitions but will omit team events in order for the tournament to finish within a week.

Ready Steady Tokyo will take place July 11 until July 18 click here for the competition schedule.
