(ATR) Mustapha Berraf will be serving a second term as president of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) after defeating fellow IOC member Lydia Nsekera for a second time.

The Algerian Berraf, 67, was re-elected by a 38 votes to 15 on Tuesday during the second and final day of the General Assembly meeting in Cairo. He had defeated Nsekera of Burundi by 34-20 in the second and final round of elections in November 2018 in Tokyo.

Berraf’s victory means he will not only remain the ANOCA president but also continue to serve as an IOC member. His membership in the IOC is tied to his ANOCA post. Nsekera was elected to the IOC as an independent member in 2009.

Ahmed Hashim of Sudan won re-election as secretary general.

The first and second vice-presidents both ran unopposed. Joao Da Costa Alegre Afonso of Sao Tome and Principe and Matlohang Moiloa Ramoqopo of Lesotho were both approved by acclamation.

The election results were posted on the Egyptian Olympic Committee’s Facebook page.
