(ATR) C.K. Wu, president of the International Association of Boxing (AIBA), and IOC President Thomas Bach top the Golden 25 Readers' Choice list.
Around the Rings'Golden 25, now in its 20th year, presents a ranking of the most influential figures involved with the Olympics for the year ahead. For the first time, the annual ranking includes Readers' Choice nominations.
C.K. Wu collected the most Readers' Choice nominations; he is also ranked 24th on the Golden 25 list.
Other reader nominations include: IOC chief Bach;Olympic TV executive Yiannis Exarchos;Prince Feisal Al Hussein, President of the Jordan Olympic Committee; Richard Pound, head of WADA's Independent Commission; and ATR Editor Ed Hula.
U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun and Brian Cookson, who took over as president of the International Cycling Union in 2013, also made the list. Blackmun is tied at number 16 with Larry Probst in the 2016 Golden 25 ranking.
Rounding out nominations are Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and L.A. 2024 chairman Casey Wasserman.L.A. is competing to host the 2024 Games alongside Paris, Rome and Budapest. Hamburg, Germany dropped out of the running after a public referendum shot down the Olympic proposal.The IOC will choose a host city at the 2017 IOC Session in Lima, Peru.
Events in 2016 that shaped nominees include the Rio Games, FIFA reforms, the Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, formation of the Olympic Channel, Olympic Agenda 2020 changes and rebuilding of organizations such as SportAccord and the Pan American Sports Organization.
Nominations closed Dec. 17, and the countdown to number one began Dec. 18. The number one ranked influential forATR'sGolden 25will be announced Jan. 1.To review Golden 25 listings through the years, click here.
