The Court Of Arbitration For Sport (CAS) Approached By The Tunisian Football Federation

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the Executive Committee of the African Football Confederation (CAF) which calls into question the participation of the FTF at the 2017 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has filed an appeal at the Courtof Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the Executive Committee of the African FootballConfederation (CAF) which calls into question the participation of the FTF at the 2017 edition of theAfrica Cup of Nations (CAN).

On 31 January 2015, Tunisia lost a quarter final match of the CAN 2015 to Equatorial Guinea. Theend of the match was marked by incidents on the pitch, during which some actions were directedagainst the match referee and the CAF officials. On 2 February 2015, the Disciplinary Jury of the CAFrendered a decision condemning the FTF to pay a fine of USD 50,000 and inviting it to send a letterof apology to the CAF. In a decision dated 6 February 2015, the Executive Committee of the CAFendorsed the suspension of the FTF President, Mr Wadie Jary, pronounced earlier by the CANOrganising Committee, and fixed a deadline until 31 March 2015 for the FTF to conform to the CAFdirectives, failing which, the Executive Committee of the CAF would disqualify the national team ofTunisia from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

The FTF’s statement of appeal is accompanied with a request for a stay. An arbitration procedure hasbeen initiated and is being conducted in accordance with the Code of Sports-related Arbitration. TheCAS will not give any further information at this time.
