In a move to upgrade the administration of the sport of taekwondo as it gains ever-greater acceptance worldwide, the WTF has conducted a sweeping organizational and personnel reshuffle.
Under the changes, effective on June 9, new departments have been established, while some departments have been renamed.
The newly established Education Department, which will be headed by Deputy Secretary General Eil-chul Kim, will be in charge of developing and managing educational programs for referees, coaches and instructors. The department will also oversee cyber education and WTF regional training centers.
Under the direct control of Jin-bang Yang, director general of the WTF Seoul headquarters, the new Event Department will be responsible for more effectively managing events promoted and sanctioned by the WTF.
The Member Relations & Development Department, formerly the International Affairs Department, will be headed by Deputy Secretary General Seok-jae Kang, who has served as head of the PR Department. It will be responsible for all matters related to member associations and will also take care of international PR.
The new Communications Department, formerly the PR Department, will be headed by Hee-soo Noh, who previously served as director of the International Affairs Department.
The Sport Department will be led by Jae-wook Lee, while the Marketing Department will be headed by Jung-ae Park, who served as executive deputy secretary general.
The General Affairs Department was renamed to the Administration Department. It will be headed by Seung-min Lee, who served as director of the Marketing Department, and will be in charge of overall administrative matters.
The newly established Finance Department will be led by Byung-chun Jeon and will take charge of finance and accounting matters.
The Legal Department will be headed by Corbin Min, while the President's Office will be led by Jeong-kang Seo.
The newly expanded Para-taekwondo Department will be headed by Olof Hansson, project manager in charge of para-taekwondo matters at the WTF Lausanne headquarters.
The TV Department will be led by Kyung-hee Park, director in charge of TV broadcasting at the WTF Lausanne headquarters.
On the occasion of the reshuffle, the WTF will hold a two-day workshop on June 30 and July 1, with the attendance of WTF President Chungwon Choue, WTF Secretary General Hoss Rafaty and Roger Piarulli, director general of the WTF Lausanne headquarters.
And to celebrate the moving of the WTF Seoul headquarters in early June from Seongnam in Gyeonggi Province to Jongno-gu in downtown Seoul, very close to Seoul’s landmark medieval palace, Gyeongbokgung, the WTF will hold a reception at its new premises on June 22.
