(ATR)World Bowling president Kevin Dornberger says an upcoming event in Tokyo could help in putting the sport on the Olympic Program.

"Frankly, it fits in our short-term goal of being considered for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics."

In a statement released on Monday, the federation announced Tokyo would host a leg of the 2015 World Bowling Tour July 9-12.

Following a recommendation put forth in Olympic Agenda 2020 that would allow organizing committees to add one or more events to the Olympic program, Dornberger says it benefits the federation to stage events in cities like Tokyo.

Earlier in March, World Bowling also marked a new chapter in moving its headquarters to Lausanne. Dornberger joins ATR to discuss the move and the year ahead for World Bowling.
