World Archery asks public to decide three year-end awards in 2014
Voting for the World Archery 2014 Awards officially opened today as the organisation invited fans around the world to decide who should take home the prizes for Athletes of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Photographer of the Year. For the Athletes of the Year prizes the public will vote in four categories – recurve men, recurve women, compound men and compound women – from a five-person shortlist in each category, featuring:
Marcus DALMEIDA (BRA): 16-year old Archery World Cup and Youth Olympic Games silver medallist
World Cup Champions and Olympic silver medallists Aida ROMAN (MEX) and Brady ELLISON (USA)
China’s Nanjing 2014 Champion, LI Jiaman
The public also have the opportunity to submit their own images into the Photographer of the Year category and – in a first – the chance to single out somebody exceptional in their community for Archery Volunteer of the Year recognition.
"We hope that archers from around the world are empowered to thank volunteers in their own communities who gift time, passion and expertise to our sport," said World Archery Secretary General Tom DIELEN.
The award gala, at which eight gongs will be presented in total, will take place on 6 February 2015 in Las Vegas during the Indoor Archery World Cup Final and The Vegas Shoot. The Vegas Shoot, known for being the largest indoor archery tournament in the world, will see over 2,200 amateur and Olympic archers compete over three action-packed days of competition.
