UPDATED: Doping Violation Hits French Eventing Team

(ATR) The French eventing team has lost their qualification spot in the Rio 2016 Olympics due to a doping violation.

(ATR) The French eventing team has lost their qualification spot in the Rio 2016 Olympics due to a doping violation.

An International Equestrian Federation tribunal ruled on Apr. 23 that French rider Maxime Livio and horse Qalao des Mers used a banned substance during competition of the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Normandy, France.

Livio finished fifth overall in eventing at the championship, while the French team finished fourth qualifing for the Rio Games.

As a result of the expulsion of Livio, FEI removed the automatic qualifying spot the French team earned. for Olympic competition per FEI anti-doping regulations, according to a release.

"I understand the movie industry is fickle and he didn't plan for this. But it's not hard to send a text message."

Bauer stopped short of condemning the aspiring actor's actions but made sure to voice his displeasure.

The French eventing team can re-qualify for Rio 2016 at the 2016 FEI European Championship in Blair Castle, Great Britain in September.

According to FEI, the tribunal will release the full sanctions on Livio at a later date. The French team and Livio can appeal the decisions to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for a final ruling.
