The field is complete, all four remaining continental championships have now been scheduled.
After marking down on the calendar the European, Asian and Oceania events, the International Federation of Sport Climbing - along with the South African National Climbing Federation - rescheduled the IFSC African Championships from December 10 to 13. The host city of the competition is still to be determined, with Cape Town and Johannesburg being the two possible locations.
Originally, the African competition was supposed to be held between March 19 and 22 in Cape Town, but it had to be postponed as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, on April 6 the IFSC Executive Board set an action plan, with the remaining Championships to be rescheduled within May 15.
Here’s the complete program of the four continental events:
IFSC European Championships in Moscow (RUS) from October 1 to 8
IFSC African Championships in Cape Twon/Johannesburg (RSA) from December 10 to 13
IFSC Asian Championships in Xiamen (CHN) from December 10 to 13
IFSC Oceania Championships in Sydney (AUS) from December 19 to 20
Each competition will distribute two Olympic slots for Tokyo 2020 – one quota per gender – finally completing the field of Olympic qualified athletes in Sport Climbing.
IFSC President Marco Scolaris said:
"Having our four remaining Continental Championship rescheduled is a strong message of hope. A big thank you to our Councils, National Federations and organizers, who prove their love for sport climbing and their positive thinking."
