New Leadership for WSB
World Series of Boxing boasts a new chief operating officer with a week to go until third season bouts begin.
AIBA announced Monday that Karim Bouzidi, who holds dual French and Algerian citizenship, will take over from former COO Ivan Khodabakhsh, effective immediately.
"Mr. Khodabakhsh will now have a key role within the Boxing Marketing Arm SA (BMA), the external marketing company set up by AIBA to ensure the commercial success of all its properties: AIBA Olympic Boxing (AOB), World Series of Boxing (WSB) and AIBA Professional Boxing,"an AIBA spokesman tells Around the Rings.
Bouzidi served as general manager of Paris United during its WSB title run in 2010-2011 and has also worked with the International Boxing Centre of Tunis as well as the African Boxing Confederation.
"It has been an absolute pleasure working with him over the past two years when he was leading the French Franchise with Brahim Asloum, and I am very happy that he will now put all his experience and expertise to the benefit of the competition," said AIBA president C.K. Wu.
WSB returns to the ring Nov. 15 with six franchises in Europe, three in Asia and three in the Americas.
High Diving, Mixed Relays Make Splash
High diving will debut at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona.
Members of the FINA Bureau confirmed the addition of men’s 27m and women’s 18m exhibition events during their meeting on the sidelines of the 2nd World Aquatics Convention in Moscow.
They also voted to include mixed relays in the program of future FINA World Junior Swimming Championships following their World Cup debut last month in Dubai.
FINA is believed to harbor Olympic ambitions for both the high diving and mixed relay events.
Among the decisions taken in Moscow, according to a Tuesday release from FINA: "Negotiations to continue with the IOC in order to increase the contribution of the aquatic disciplines in the Olympic program".
