Paracanoe is one of the fastest growing parasports on the planet, and the challenge for the Paracanoe community is to keep pace with changes in technology and training methods and to capitalize on inclusive expansion opportunities.
That’s the view of the International Canoe Federation’s Paracanoe Chairman, John Edwards, ahead of the Paracanoe conference in Stockholm, Sweden from October 5-7.
The deadline for registrations for the conference has been extended and an additional block of rooms have been allocated because of the world-wide interest in the topics being discussed.
"We have been fortunate enough to assemble the world leaders in all these fields for the conference. They are guaranteed to generate plenty of interesting discussions."
The world’s very best paracanoe athletes will be in action at the 2018 ICF World Paracanoe Championships in Portugal next week, including five of the six gold medallists from Rio in 2016.
Many of the athletes will also be competing in the Va’a category, which has been added to the Paralympic program for Tokyo 2020.
"The introduction of Va’a is exciting for our sport, and as a new sport it is certain to raise plenty of interest at our conference," Edwards said.
"Along with experts in all the fields, we will also hear first hand from athletes who will share their experiences and thoughts on the future direction of paracanoe."
