The International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) is delighted to announce that the "Teqball at Eurovillage, Islamabad" project has been nominated for the 2019 Peace and Sport Awards in the category April 6 Initiative of the Year.

FITEQ, in cooperation with the Hungarian Embassy in Pakistan, organised a celebration on the United Nations (UN) International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (April 6) during the Eurovillage Festival in the Pakistani capital. Visitors were invited to experience teqball and learn about the positive values the sport transmits, before uniting for the symbolic #WhiteCard picture.

The April 6 Initiative of the Year award rewards individuals and organisations who have contributed to the celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, through a #WhiteCard initiative or an event raising awareness on the use of sport as a tool for development and peace. The #WhiteCard campaign is anchored around the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace and organisations all over the world are invited by Peace and Sport to show their commitment to peace efforts worldwide.

FITEQ Head of Diplomatic Relations, Gergely Muranyi, said:

"FITEQ is honoured to be nominated for the highly prestigious April 6 Initiative of the Year award. It was a truly memorable experience to be part of the Eurovillage Festival, where we had the opportunity to demonstrate how teqball can unite communities all over the world. We are already seeing a positive legacy from our celebration in Islamabad, where we donated two teqball tables to the local community. We are delighted that one month after this event the Pakistani Teqball Federation was established, meaning the positive impacts of the sport can be shared across the country. On behalf of FITEQ, I would like to thank Peace and Sport for recognising the effort we put into this event, and also congratulate them on invaluable work the organisation does in promoting peace globally."

The Eurovillage Festival was organised by the European Union (EU) to raise awareness about the different cultural traditions of EU member states and the EU’s activities in Pakistan. It was a day of music, European cuisine, games, and cultural exchange.

The Peace and Sports Awards Ceremony will take place in the Principality of Monaco on 12 December, as part of 2019 Peace and Sport International Forum. Peace and Sport is a politically neutral organisation dedicated to promoting sport as a tool for peace. This year is the 12th edition of the Forum and over 600 key decision-makers, including Heads of State, sports business leaders, Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, representatives from civil society and international organisations will explore the theme "Investing in Peace, Acting through Sport".
