Dutch golden girl Marianne Vos is a fitting star of the 2012 Road Cycling World Championships.
Not only was did the Olympic and now world champion win on home soil in Limburg, Netherlands, she did so a day after the UCI’s annual Congress focused on improving the state of women’s cycling.
President Pat McQuaid called on member federations Friday to "continue their efforts in training women, not only as athletes but also as part of management, so that they can reinforce the teams of directors within federations, confederations and the UCI."
The IOC member from Ireland also cited a 53 percent increase in elite women riders over the past decade and a 68 percent hike in elite women’s teams.
The weekend’s other winners were Philippe Gilbert of Beligum in the men’s road race, Tony Martin of Germany in the men’s time trial and Judith Arndt of Germany in the women’s time trial.
FIBA 3x3 Grand Final
