(ATR) The World Equestrian Games managed to escape the impacts of Hurricane Florence, which hit North Carolina last week.

The WEG, the signature event for International Equestrian Federation (FEI), was held in Tryon, a small town in the western end of the state.

The only event suspended due to rain from the storm was the Dressage Freestyle event.

When the WEG is over Sept. 23, 18 Olympic places will have been awarded.

Germany and Great Britain lead the medal table with two gold and two bronze, followed by the United States, which won one gold, three silver and one bronze.

A total of 36 Olympic medalists have registered.

Sabrina Ibáñez, FEI secretary general, told Around The Rings that the worst of the weather problems are over.

"According to the National Meteorology Service, which has a station at the Games headquarters and that provides updates every 6 hours, the worst has already passed and the weather forecast for this second week should not produce drastic changes in the program of the competitions," she says.
