Denmark is ready for the 2018 IIHF World Championship. The Danish bid delegation has arrived in Minsk and is ready to present a visionary bid including two world class multi arenas, high quality hotels and a strong infrastructure. IIHF will announce the host on Friday.

The 2018 IIHF World Championship will be marking a first for Denmark as host for the Men’s World Championship and will open new opportunities for the development of hockey and expansion of the World Championships to new host countries in the future.

-Over the years we have worked hard to grow our sport, investing many resources in the development of hockey at all levels to create a top-ranked national team that competes among the best. With the unconditional financial support of our national and local governments for the organization of the 2018 World Championship, we are committed to ensuring that the IIHF’s flagship event continues to expand, says Henrik Bach Nielsen, President, Danish Ice Hockey Association.

-As a small nation it has taken a lot of time and effort to move up the ranks, but we have done it. We want to use our experience to inspire our fellow members to do the same. Now is the time to move our sport forward, now is the time to invest in the expansion of ice hockey, continues Henrik Bach Nielsen.

- The Danish bid focuses on the capital city of Copenhagen which will serve as the primary host city for the Championship, with the support of event stronghold Herning as co-host of the event. This is a strong partnership between two committed and highly skilled event cities that Sport Event Denmark has partnered with numerous times. Also the Danish Ice Hockey Association demonstrates world class professionalism , says Lars Lundov, CEO, Sport Event Denmark that is a solid partner both in regards to the bidding and if awarded the event to the planning and hosting of the 2018 IIHF World Championship.

Denmark has never staged an IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships but has for some years now prepared for a hosting and has previously also bid for the World Championships. The two host cities, Copenhagen and Herning, have many years of hosting experiences and many more things to offer teams, federations, IIHF, guests and spectators such as the world famous Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen and Legoland near Herning.

Denmark ranks #13 in the current IIHF World Ranking and has participated in the World Championship for 12 consecutive years.

The bid has full and strong support from the Danish government, the national Olympic Committee and the cities of Copenhagen and Herning and the national sport event organization, Sport Event Denmark.
