Juan Antonio Samaranch, vicepresidente del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI), afirmó que el Movimiento Olímpico “se juega mucho” en París 2024, porque la cita debe ser “el símbolo que se necesita para cambiar la dinámica atroz que vive el planeta”.
El dirigente del deporte español remarcó la importancia de que los Juegos Olímpicos sean un éxito: “Estamos a 105 días de París 2024, donde todos nos jugamos mucho. París pretende sacar el espíritu olímpico fuera de los estadios, desde la ceremonia inaugural, a lo largo de seis kilómetros del río Sena, hasta las competiciones en La Concorde, el Champs de Mars o Versalles. Es un ejercicio nuevo, distinto, muy bien hecho por los franceses y tenemos muchas esperanza de que salga bien”, aseguró Samaranch, que asistió este jueves a la sede del Comité Olímpico Español (COE) a la presentación del libro 366 historias (y más) de los Juegos Olímpicos que deberías conocer, del periodista Alfredo Relaño.
Los Juegos, añadió Samaranch, “son uno de los pocos ejemplos vivos, actuales, de éxito, que demuestran que los jóvenes del mundo tienen muchas más unión de lo que se dice sobre ellos”.
En medio de la compleja situación geopolítica entre Rusia y Ucrania, en la que el COI ha tomado posición excluyendo a los atletas rusos y bielorrusos desde marzo de 2022, Samaranch tuvo un mensaje al respecto: “Los Juegos son un símbolo que se necesita para cambiar esa dinámica atroz”, subrayó. “En París 2024 estarán los atletas israelíes y los palestinos, conviviendo entre ellos. Estarán los ucranianos y los de pasaporte ruso independientes, todos bajo el mismo techo”, indicó el vicepresidente, hijo del que fue presidente homónimo del COI.
Samaranch reiteró la plena confianza en el Estado francés en materia de seguridad, el tema que más preocupación genera en la previa de los Juegos Olímpicos: “En el COI no somos nadie para decir que pongan un gendarme en esta o en aquella puerta”.
