La neerlandesa Femke Bol bajó su propia marca en los 400 metros, se consagró campeona del mundo por primera vez en pista cubierta y estableció el primer récord mundial en Glasgow 2024.
La velocista neerlandesa de 24 años recorrió la distancia en 49.17s, siete centésimas por debajo de la plusmarca (49.24s) que ella misma ostentaba desde el pasado 18 de febrero, cuando se coronó en Apeldoorn, quebrando el récord con vigencia desde 1983.
Bol, dominante en la prueba de principio a fin, superó a su compatriota Lieke Klaver (50.16s) y a la norteamericana Alexis Holmes (50.24s). Luego de la carrera calificó de “increíble” la coronación y explicó que “sabía que tenía que iniciar rápido”.
Es la séptima vez que Bol rebaja los 50 segundos, un tiempo que solo cinco atletas mujeres consiguieron en la historia de la especialidad. En París buscará su primera medalla dorada olímpica, en los 400m con vallas, luego del bronce conquistado en Tokio 2020.
En los 400m masculinos se produjo la gran sorpresa del segundo día de competencia: con récord nacional (45.25s), el belga Alexander Doom le negó el título mundial al campeón olímpico Karsten Warholm (45.34s). También se coronó en Glasgow el multicampeón de salto en largo Miltiadis Tentoglou, quien se pronunció en contra de las modificaciones sugeridas por World Athletics.
