On Sunday, Iran’s Paralympic Committee President Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa was named as the new president of Iran’s National Olympic Committee (NOC).
Elections were held at Tehran’s Olympic Academy, where Vafa narrowly defeated Mehdi Alinejad, - the former deputy of Iran’s Sports Ministry - by a margin of only one vote.
Khosravi Vafa accrued 28 votes, while Alinejad earned 27 votes.
Vafa replaces Reza Salehi Amiri, who had been elected unopposed as replacement of Kioomars Hashemi in January 2018.
As the new NOC President, Khosravi Vafa will lead Iran’s National Olympic Committee for the next four years until his term ends in 2026.
Khosravi Vafa, had been head of Iran’s National Paralympic Committee since 2001.
