Eya Guezguez, who competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games at age 16, died Sunday during a sailing training accident.
The Tunisian was with her twin sister Sarra training at sea, when her boat capsized due to the wind. Sarra survived the accident but Eya did not.
The two sisters competed together at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and finished 21st in the 49er FX event. They were Tunisia’s youngest athletes to compete in the Games.
Her untimely death was first reported by Tunisian journalist Souhail Khmira who tweeted, “Eya Guezguez, Tunisian Olympic Windsurfer, has passed away Sunday after an accident at practice. May she Rest In Peace.”
