China has dominated the sport in the past two Olympic Games

The Chinese diving team will have a different look at the upcoming world championships in Hungary, not to mention the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.

According to Chinese media Shi Tingmao and Xie Siyi, gold medal winners in Tokyo 2020 in the women’s and men’s individual and synchronized springboard, have retired from the sport.

Shi, 30, said in Tokyo it was likely her final Olympics, and according to reports has moved into coaching.

China won seven of the eight diving gold medals in Tokyo, while taking a silver medal in the other. They finished first and second in all four individual events.

By the time the Paris 2024 Olympic begin, however, the team will have a very different look to it, as Wang Han, Chen Aisen and Yang Jian have also competed in their last Olympic Games.

Of the 18 athletes who currently make up the team, 15 of them are under the age of 22 according to Xinhua News Agency. Quan Hongchan, gold medalist at Tokyo in the women’s platform, turned 14 years old last week.
