U.S. Bid Talks
U.S. Olympic Committee leaders are expected this week to hold their first formal discussions on a potential Games bid since the signing of a new revenue-sharing deal with the IOC.
The talks were to take place during last week’s Board of Directors meeting scheduled for San Jose, Calif., but wildfires in Colorado Springs caused USOC leadership to call a two-hour teleconference instead, leaving little time for bid discussion.
Jungwirth Trial
The embezzlement trial of former Austrian Olympic Committee secretary general Heinz Jungwirth resumes Tuesday.
Proceedings were postponed last month so more detailed reports on the around $3.5 million in question could be prepared.
London Assembly
Leaders of the London Legacy Development Corporation are among the guests slated to appear Wednesday before the Planning Committee of the London Assembly.
LLDC chief of design Kathryn Firth and executive director of regeneration and community partnerships Paul Brickell will appear in the session titled "Olympic Park legacy planning" from 3:15 p.m. GMT.
Wimbledon
Wimbledon wraps up this week at the All England Club, venue for Olympic tennis in just three weeks.
The women’s singles final is slated for Saturday morning with the men to follow Sunday.
Hoops Qualifying
FIBA’s final three spots for the men’s Olympic basketball tournament at London 2012 are up for grabs this week in Caracas.
Russia, South Korea, Greece, Jordan, Macedonia, Angola, Nigeria, and hosts Venezuela are the eight teams in the hunt.
Play runs Monday through Sunday with the top two finishers joining Argentina, France, Tunisia and defending Olympic champions USA in Group A at the Games.
Australia, Brazil, China, Great Britain, reigning runner-up Spain and the third-place team from Caracas are bound for Group B in London.
Office Closing
Around the Rings headquarters in Atlanta will be closed Wednesday in observance of July 4.
Regular business hours will resume Thursday.
