Former Rio 2016 Secretary General Begins New Post

(ATR) The number two official with Rio de Janeiro's Olympic bid is now a member of the legislature for the Rio de Janeiro State.

Carlos Osorio was in charge of transportation for city of Rio de Janeiro before winning his Oct. 5 election. Previously, he served as Secretary General for the Rio 2016 bid committee.

He received70,835 vote, enough to qualify for direct election.

It is unclear who the Rio state governor will be.

Incumbent Luiz Fernando Pezão will face Marcelo Crivella in a run-off. That race will be decided on October 26, the second round of the Brazilian general election.

Also on the ballot for the second round of voting is Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff. She is running against challenger Aecio Neves.

The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, who will have the greatest impact on the Rio 2016 Olympics, is not up for election until after the Games.
