(ATR) The president of the Hungarian Olympic Committee says that the city’s Olympic aspirations are now "more than just a dream."

"If all pull in the same direction, Budapest can present a credible, competitive application for hosting the 2028 Olympics," Zsolt Borkai told newspaper Napi Gazdasag.

The IOC will not decide a 2028 host until 2021, and official bids are not due until 2019.

Budapest will host the 2017 European Youth Olympic Festival, an event the HOC president called a dress rehearsal for an Olympic bid.

"It is a major challenge involving the construction of several sports complexes and appropriate facilities for transferring millions of people on land, air, and water."

Budapest has bid for the Olympics five times, most recently for the 1960 Games.
