(ATR) Dmitry Chernyshenko is said to be tapped to lead one of Russia’s largest media companies.

On Friday, Mikhail Lesin, chairman of Gazprom-Media, submitted his resignation as the head of the holding company. A statement from Gazprom-Media said he resigned "citing family issues."

Dmitry Chernyshenko, the president and CEO of Sochi 2014, was nominated to replace Lesin.

In November, Chernyshenko was announced as the president of the KHL, Russia’s professional hockey league. It is unclear if he would leave the KHL to lead Gazprom-Media. The only possible indication of his future came from Chernyshenko's Twitter account. The feed in Russian and English contained retweets of KHL tweets from Dec. 18.

Gazprom-Media, which is owned by Gazprom Bank, itself owned by the state-run energy giant Gazprom, has more than 40 companies in its portfolio, including several television and radio stations and multiple newspapers.
