(ATR) The World Anti-Doping Agency is strengthening its investigations division by hiring Gunter Younger from the Bavarian State Police in Germany.
As the head of the Cyber Crime Division in Germany and a leader of Interpol’s newly created Anti-Doping section, Gunter has several years of experience in the law enforcement industry.
Gunter was also a member of the WADA Independent Commission along with Richard Pound that revealed the corrupted state of Russia’s anti-doping programs.
"Gunter is no stranger to many in the anti-doping community given the pivotal role that he played -- alongside Richard Pound and Richard McLaren -- on WADA’s Independent Commission," said incoming director general Olivier Niggli.
He will take over the title of Director of Intelligence and Investigations at WADA on Oct. 3 in Montreal, Quebec. The appointment comes at a time when WADA is seeking increased investigative powers and placing greater emphasis on its proactive approach to fighting against doping cheats.
"Increasingly, WADA and its anti-doping partners employ techniques to collect information and produce intelligence to maximize the global anti-doping program," said Niggli.
"We are confident that Gunter’s rich pedigree in the world of law enforcement will bring tremendous value to clean sport and, as a result, clean athletes worldwide."
