Turkish NOC "Delighted" by SportAccord
As SportAccord Convention 2014 drew to a close on Friday, the Turkish Olympic Committee thanked Marius Vizer and SportAccord for the event’s success.
In a statement released on Monday, Neşe Gündoğan, secretary general of the Turkish Olympic Committee, said the committee was "delighted with how the event has gone," and praised Vizer and the SportAccord team for the "excellent and fruitful opportunity for all parties involved in the sports movement to come together to share expertise."
The president of the Turkish Olympic Committee, Uğur Erdener, also spoke highly of SportAccord Convention 2014.
"It has been a great opportunity for Turkey to welcome so many delegates from every corner of the sports world in meetings that will shape the next year in sport."
IOC Supports Saudi Women's Sports Development
After Thomas Bach's recent visit to Saudi Arabia, the IOC tells Around the Rings that it "fully supports" measures by the country to further develop its women's sports programs.
"And following participation by female athletes from Saudi Arabia at the Olympic Games in London and the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, this would be a further step towards full participation by girls and women at all levels of sport in the country," read a statement from the IOC.
Bach met with Saudi officials in Riyadh earlier this month as an advocate of female participation in sports in the country.
Gillot Leaving AIBA
AIBA communications director Sébastien Gillot announced this week that he will leave the International Boxing Association on April 17th.
Gillot worked as AIBA’s communications director for almost three years. His future plans are not yet known.
Schwank Named German Chef de Mission
According to a DOSB release, Bernhard Schwank will act as the German chef de mission for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing and the 2015 European Games in Baku.
Schwank is currently the sports director of the DOSB. As chef de mission, he will act as a team manager over the German delegation of athletes sent to the two international events.
