Theresa Zabell Leaving Spanish Olympic Committee

(ATR) One of the leading officials for the Madrid 2016 and 2020 bids is leaving the Spanish Olympic Committee.

In a statement sent out on Tuesday, the EOC, Spain’s Olympic Committee, said Zabell is stepping down as first vice president of the organization at the end of the month. She joined the EOC in 2007.

The EOC said she decided to leave the EOC "to close a stage in her career."

An active leaderof the Madrid 2016 and 2020 bids, Zabell served as International Relations CEO for Madrid 2020 and was athletes commission chair for the 2016 campaign.

Zabell, 49 was an Olympian sailor. She won gold at the 1992 and 1994 Olympics in the 470 class event. In 1994 she was voted the women’s world sailor of the year.
