The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has released the second edition of its magazine "The Paralympian" for 2017, which features an exclusive interview with the new IPC President Andrew Parsons.

The Paralympian underwent a makeover earlier this year, with April’s first edition showcasing the magazine’s new design that includes extensive news coverage around the Paralympic Movement, in-depth features with Para athletes and helpful information passed from one IPC member to another.
As the IPC transitions from former IPC President Sir Philip Craven to Parsons, the main feature catches up with the Brazilian on what his first months have been like and what his priorities are as the third President in IPC history. With a new President also comes a new Governing Board, and readers can find more on who will make up that group.
The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games are under four months to go, and the magazine highlights the important snow sport World Cups leading to those Games and which athletes to watch for on the circuit. For those interested in experiencing PyeongChang 2018 live, information on how to purchase tickets can also be found in this edition.
While PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 are the targets for many athletes, Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028 have also been confirmed as the next stops for the Paralympic Games. Interviews with representatives from each of the Organising Committees are included and what it means for the Paralympics to come to their country.
The iconic cover photo of Spanish sprinter Sara Andres Barrio celebrating in the rain is just one of the stunning images captured at the World Para Athletics Championships London 2017 over the summer. The Championships were one for the history books, as records were broken not only on the tracks, but also in spectator attendance and media coverage. Many more sports held their World Championships this year, and the magazine helps readers catch up on what happened and who the top performers were.
As part of The Paralympian’s new look, this edition features two case studies that look into how the National Paralympic Committee’s (NPCs) of Laos and Peru are developing Para sports in their own countries. While NPC Laos has had success in powerlifting, it looks to branch out. For NPC Peru, there was one woman with a big passion who changed the Movement in her country.
A new addition to the magazine includes "A week in the life of…" section, where readers can take a ride in the handbike/racing chair of Dutch dual-sport machine Jetze Plat as he prepares to take on his first Ironman.
"The Big Debate" looks into hot topics in the Paralympic Movement and provides insight from three experts. This time, readers can know more about one of the smallest groups in the Movement – athletes with high support needs – and what can be done to increase their participation.
The magazine closes with a memoir dedicated to Jose Luis Campo, former President of the Americas Paralympic Committee who passed away in October.
