Simon Clegg to Dubai, Mike Plant Rises at Braves

(ATR) Simon Clegg is named Chief Operating Officer of Expo 2020 in Dubai.

A well-known figure around the Olympics, Clegg was COO of the 2015 European Games in Baku. Prior to that assignment he was CEO of the British Olympic Association and Ipswich Town Football Club.

Clegg tells Around the Rings he is already on duty in the UAE capital.

Expo 2020 will take place between October 2020 and April 2021. Exhibits are expected from 180 nations and projections call for 25 million visitors to the Expo.

Mike Plant Takes New Role at Braves

Mike Plant takes over as a co-president of the AtlantaBraves Major League Baseball team.

Plant was chef de mission for the U.S. team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. An Olympic speedskater early in his career, Plant is president of U.S. Speedskating and has served as a board member of cycling federation UCI. He was a member of the board for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games.

Plant has been leading construction and development of the new stadium for the Braves. The team will move in 2017 from the stadium built in downtown Atlanta as Centennial Olympic Stadium to an arena in the north Atlanta suburb of Marietta.

Working with him as the other co-president of the Braves is Derek Schiller whose name may be familiar. His father is Harvey Schiller, once the secretary general of the U.S. Olympic Committee.
