(ATR) Both the figure skating world championships and men’s world curling championships begin in Boston and Basel, Switzerland respectively this week.
The figure skating championships get underway Monday, March 28 as 200 of the world’s top figure skaters compete at Boston’s TD Garden. It is the first time the championships will be held in the city in the event’s 130-year history.
Four disciplines will be contested at the seven-day event including men, ladies, pairs and ice dance. Each country can enter an individual or team for each discipline.
Countries are awarded additional entries for good performances in the previous edition of the championships, adding to the pressure and importance of the event. The championships come to a close on April 3.
Twelve of the top-ranked men’s curling teams head to Basel, Switzerland April 2 to compete in the World Curling Federation’s men’s championships.
The WCF celebrates its 50th year one day prior to the start of the tournament taking place at St. Jakobshalle, the same venue that hosted the event in 2012.
The 12 teams competing for the title of world’s best are Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Korea, Norway, Russia, Scotland, defending champions Sweden, and hosts Switzerland. This event also offers the first opportunity for countries to earn points towards PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic qualification.
World Curling TV will provide live and on-demand coverage of the 10-day event that draws to a close on April 10.

The annual SportAccord Convention will take place from April 17-22 at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Delegates interested in attending the convention have only six days remaining to book their spot at the discounted rate of $2,550. The price for a delegate pass increases to $3,070 on March 31.
CISA Less Than One Week Away
The Africa International Sports Convention turns 10 in 2016 as the conference heads to Algiers, Algeria.
CISA will be held from Apr. 1-3 and is organized by the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee (AOC) and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA).
"Day by day, year by year, CISA is becoming, an central tool for the development of sport in Africa," said AOC president and ANOCA vice president Moustapha Berraf. "It is an event with a great international scope that we are proud to welcome in order to celebrate its 10th edition."
CISA is organized every year by a different city in Africa. The convention welcomes sports business professionals at a regional and international level.
The convention also features a program to educate children through sport called CISA Kids, a gala dinner, Athletes’ Seminar and a Seminar for African Sports Journalists.
