The Jordan Olympic Committee’s (JOC) Sporting Schools Programme has launched its second phase of Olympic education training in two schools in Amman, Jordan.
Launched in 2017, the Sporting Schools Programme aims to use the power of sport and education to motivate young Jordanians to practise, improve their skills, and lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.
The second phase will introduce the Olympic Values Educational Programme (OVEP) to more than 50 boys and 50 girls and indirectly impact approximately 500 people, including students’ families and friends.
The Sporting Schools Programme, taught by JOC instructors, will see the JOC, the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Ministry of Education in Jordan deliver after school activities and share values of fair play, respect, effort, balance between body and mind, and excellence.
The programme will also introduce participants to Olympism and the history of the Olympic Games.
Nasser Majali, Secretary General of the Jordan Olympic Committee, said:
"We are delighted to introduce schools to the second phase of the Sporting Schools Programme and see more young people take up sport, and share the ideals of Olympism through educational, social and physical activities.
"The JOC would like to thank its partners for all their work in helping to encourage healthy, active lifestyles in schools in Jordan."
The second phase of the programme will run through to 26 April 2018, a week before the Sporting Schools Programme will mark its first year anniversary with a closing ceremony.
