Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) Secretary General Nasser Majali represented Jordan’s sports and esports community last week for an inaugural online webinar to discuss the engagement between esports and gaming industries and International Sports Federations (IFs).
Hosted by Marsh, a global leader in insurance broking and risk management, the online webinar brought together a wealth of experienced panellists to draw on the knowledge of National Olympic Committees and IFs that have already entered the esports arena. Participants gave important insights to the rationale behind their esports strategies, as well as sharing their success stories and pain points. The webinar also saw the group of experts discuss the attraction of esports to the global sports community.
Speaking during the webinar about accessibility in esports, Nasser Majali, JOC Secretary General and Vice President of the Arab Esports Federation, said:
"In Jordan when we are talking about sports and esports, it’s one and the same. We view esports as one of our sports. However, I would like to reiterate that accessibility in esports is borderless. This means many of our athletes and gamers are able to participate in competitions for a very low cost, with no need for visas or travel. From a reach perspective, this means access to a whole new group of spectators and athletes, many of whom might not be traditional athletes or interested in traditional sports."
Majali also highlighted how the Jordan Esports Federation is one of the most self-sustainable National Federations, due to the huge interest from major corporations and gamers.
