(ATR) The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) in the next few weeks will consider an offer from India to host the shooting and archery competitions for Birmingham 2022.
Both had been left out of the sports program for the next Commonwealth Games.
"The proposal will be reviewed and considered in January and February by the CGF and discussed with Birmingham 2022 Delivery Partners," CGF CEO David Grevemberg said in a statement confirming the offer.
"Key aspects of this assessment will be to ensure that the proposal conforms with our rules and regulations, is operationally deliverable, sets manageable precedents for the Commonwealth Games and ultimately adds value to athletes and the Commonwealth Sports Movement."
The proposal put forth by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has the support of the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), the Indian government, the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) and World Archery.
The IOA last month backed down from a threatened boycott of the Birmingham Games over shooting being left out of the sports program. Sixteen of India’s 66 medals at Gold Coast 2018 were in shooting, helping the country to a third place finish in the medals table in Australia.
Vizer Jr. Earns Teqball Promotion
The International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) Executive Board appoints Marius Vizer Jr as the federation’s new General Secretary.
Vizer Jr., who is already a member of the executive board of FITEQ and currently holds the position of Head of International Relations, replaces Jason Kirkbride. Kirkbride will remain an executive board member.
FITEQ says that as secretary general, Vizer Jr. will be integral to the continued professionalization of FITEQ, as the federation seeks to continue its impressive global growth.
"It’s an honor to be given the opportunity to help bring teqball to people all over the world as the federation’s General Secretary," Vizer Jr. said in a statement.
"FITEQ has just organised the biggest-ever Teqball World Championships, where we saw 58 countries competing to be crowned the best in the world. This capped a record-breaking 2019 for FITEQ, but we are under no illusions that there remains a long way to go before we reach our goals."
Vizer Jr. travelled to 25 countries in the past year to help promote the sport and establish new national federations.
WKF Welcomes 2020 with New Website
The World Karate Federation opened the new year with a new and improved website.
"We are thrilled to launch our new portal to the world. The new WKF.net best represents our interest in technical excellence and innovation," said WKF President Antonio Espinós in a statement.
"WKF.net will act as our gateway to the world, and will further demonstrate that the WKF is a leading, advanced sports organization."
Among the new features of the reboot: all website contents can now be shared on social media, while the ample video and photo resources of the WKF are now highlighted with the new design.
The WKF says "karatekas receive star treatment with fresh and modern content sections". Results, event information, and competition details have been redesigned so they can be integrated into the events’ micro-sites.
