12 February 2014, Sochi: HRH The Princess Royal visited the campus of the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU) on February 11 as part of her official visit to the host city of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
Princess Anne was welcomed by RIOU Rector Professor Lev Belousov, who gave The Princess a tour of the University, showing her a special photo exhibition and the commemorative time capsule with a message to future students from Russian President Vladimir Putin and former International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Jacques Rogge. During her visit, HRH also met RIOU senior officials, teachers and current students.
RIOU Rector Professor Lev Belousov said:
"It was a great honour and privilege to welcome The Princess Royal to RIOU today, and this visit is ever more important in the light of the strong partnerships that have been forged between our University and UK educational institutions. Princess Anne also provides a great example to our students of a highly successful career in sport and the Olympic Movement".
HRH Princess Anne has competed in a number of international equestrian events, and participated in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal as a member of the British team. HRH Princess Anne is the President of the British Olympic Association and is a member of the IOC.
