(ATR) The 18th FINA World Sports Medicine Congress is added to this year’s FINA World Aquatics Convention taking place in Ontario, Canada from Dec. 3-5.

The two-day congress will bring together physicians, sports scientists, health professionals as well as team doctors and coaches.

"The 2016 edition is the first time where there will be overlap of the Medicine Congress and Coaches Clinic," says Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM) executive director Dawn Haworth.

"This is an exciting new feature, as coaches, team doctors and sports scientists can benefit from the collaboration and translation of knowledge to the practical application in the pool with the athlete."

The general theme of the congress is "Swimming for Gold, Swimming for Life".

ICSS Partners with U.S. Health Department

The International Center for Sport Security Europe has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition to promote healthy lifestyles among youths throughout the world.

The council and ICSS Europe will work together to spread sports positive values and culture through sport, educate youths, be watchdogs for good governance and transparency as well as develop and protect youth in sport.

"The positive role that sports play in physical and emotional health is well established," said assistant secretary of Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Dr. Karen DeSalvo. "This new agreement demonstrates our commitment to working collaboratively with our counterparts around the globe to build systems of good governance, integrity and transparency in sport to promote healthy sport participation and environments for athletes as well as fans."

ICSS welcomes the partnership with the U.S. Health Department and says that fighting corruption and cheating in sports requires a collaborative and worldwide effort.

"The President’s Council will add significant experience and expertise to our work," said chief executive officer of ICSS Europe Dr. Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros. "Moving forward, the President’s Council will become an important partner for ICSS EUROPE and we look forward to working alongside them to ensure a stronger future where integrity and good governance sit at the heart of sport."
