EOC President Janez Kocijančič will be one of the main speakers at the EU Sport Forum, which is set to take place in Bucharest, Romania on 8-9 April.
In particular, Kocijančič will attend the panel "The role of sport federations in the promotion of European sport", along with other representatives from the sport movement, including EU Commissioner Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Tibor Navracsics and President of Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Francesco Ricci Bitti.
The session will mainly focus on the central role sports federations play in the governance and organisation of sport at national, European and international level. The panellists will discuss the main challenges that are affecting the sports movement, such as the emergence of closed leagues, the participation of athletes to events organised outside federations, the new sports and disciplines practiced outside clubs as well as best practices to fight them.
As a strong supporter and spokesperson of the European model of sport, the EOC leader will shed a light on how sport federations remain central actors in promoting sport and physical activity at grassroot level in our society and in promoting European sport interests.
Organised by the Directorate General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission, the EU Sport Forum is a unique opportunity for sport organisations to meet policy makers and representatives of the EU institutions and of the Member States.
Following last year’s successful editions, the two-day gathering will address topical issues in professional sport and grassroots sport, including anti-doping, the involvement of athletes in sport governance, as well as the digital single market.
Access to illegal online sport content, justice in sport, the role of schools in the promotion of healthy lifestyles and support for sport at grassroots level will be also on the agenda.
