(ATR) The 2022 Commonwealth Games organizing committee will soon be established.
Gideon Sam, president of the South African NOC, tells Around the Rings that the bid committee is winding up. Durban 2022 Games organizers met last week to discuss the next phase of preparations after the city secured hosting rights in September.
"So far, so good," Sam, a vice president of the Commonwealth Games Federation, told ATR.
"Seven years may look like a long period but it is not. I think everybody is working towards ensuring that we organize ourselves in such a way that we do make enough time," he added.
No LOC chief has yet been appointed but Sam said the structure of the organizing committee was being set up in partnership with the South African government.
He expects the LOC to be appointed within the next month.
The sports program for the 2022 Games is likely to receive some attention in the coming weeks, with further talks about the possible inclusion of cricket in the Commonwealth Games taking place.
The International Cricket Council is also pushing the sport to gain Olympic status. Representatives from cricket's governing body are scheduled to meet with IOC officials in Lausanne next month.
