Buyout Ahead for Sports Consultancy Firm

A private management group is buying TSE Consulting from its British parent company.

Sportcal reported Wednesday that managing director Lars Haue-Pedersen is one of four TSE execs included alongside private investors involved in the budding buyout.

‘‘TSE is a very attractive company so there has been interest from many different sides," he said in a statement posted to the consultancy’s website.

"We are happy that we were able to acquire the company and look forward to continuing to service our clients worldwide and develop the company further."

The relinquishing of ownership by Porta Communications remains subject to shareholder approval.

Based in Lausanne, TSE engages with cities and countries to attract major sports events and boost the performance of national teams.

Among its clients are SportEvent Denmark and the Brazilian Olympic team as well as the Swiss and Qatari Olympic Committees.

Signs of Life for Quebec 2022

Quebec City is one step closer to another Winter Olympic bid.

After losing out to Salt Lake City in the IOC vote for 2002 and then failing to receive the Canadian NOC’s nomination for 2010, the provincial capital is hiring Olympics veteran Populous to examine a third attempt.

Postemedia News reported Tuesday that the Kansas City design firm will help decide if and when to bid.

Populous, a sports infrastructure specialist, also worked with Vancouver, London and Sochi.

"Their mandate is to come up with a preliminary strategy, including the steps we need to take, the issues to considerand a schedule for this type of candidacy," regional minister Sam Hamad told the Canadian news agency.

"They will give us alternatives in order to see which [year] would be the best for us."

The lack of a suitable mountain for alpine skiing doomed Quebec City’s campaign for 2010 and casts considerable doubt on any future bid.

In a December report, the International Ski Federation said the venue proposed in past bids, Mount a Liguori, is too flat for the Olympics.

Quebec premier Jean Charest is still holding out hope.

He reiterated his long-held desire for the Winter Games in his inauguration speech earlier last month, and the task force he created last year to examine a future candidacy will decide next month which ski hill to go with for the city’s next Olympic bid.

According to Postmedia, Quebec City mayor Regis Labeaume has yet to back any plans for the Games.

Davos/St. Moritz 2022

The Swiss cities of Davos and St. Moritz will present a joint-bid for the 2022 Olympics on Thursday.

According to media reports, a politician representing the towns’ canton in eastern Switzerland said: "we want simpler games," referencing the bid.

The Swiss Olympic Association will make a decision later in the year whether to bid. Likely figuring into its decision — which city will host the 2018 Games.Should Annecy, France or Munich win over PyeongChang, South Korea, it would likely doom any Swiss bid.

St. Moritz hosted the 1928 and 1948 Winter Olympics.
