(ATR) The Commonwealth Games Federation has approved 48 athletes for late entry into Glasgow 2014.
Through a number of oversights, sporting administrators from Kenya, Jamaica, Uganda, Trinidad and Tobago, Tanzania, Australia, Ghana, and the Bahamas failed to submit their athlete’s entries by the June 11th deadline for Glasgow 2014 submissions.
After being approached by officials from all eight countries, the CGF granted reprieve to the affected athletes, allowing them to participate in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
"The CGF Executive Board took the view that wherever possible athletes should not suffer because of the failings of their administrators," said CGF president Prince Imran.
"These athletes have trained for years for the opportunity to take part at Glasgow, and we welcome them to these Commonwealth Games and wish them well."
The CGF board will look at imposing sanctions against countries who fail to meet important deadlines that impact the Commonwealth Games’ operations and their own athletes’ participation at the 2015 Commonwealth Games General Assembly in Auckland.
The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games start July 23.

The American, a seven-time Olympic champion, referred to the case of the 23 positive controls before the Tokyo Games that were announced a few weeks ago and shook the swimming world. “I think our faith in some of the systems is at an all-time low,” he said.
