On Sunday, the Canadian Olympic Committee released the following statement of condolence after the passing of PASO President Mario Vázquez Raña.

"Mario was a legendary leader, a dear friend and an esteemed colleague. His fund raising and contribution to sport in his country and around the world as a builder has been vast and is evidenced by the number of sport administration positions he has held across the Mexican Olympic Committee, International Olympic Committee, Association of International Olympic Committees and the Pan American Sports Organization. Mario Vázquez Raña was the founding Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) President and served for nearly 33 years. He was also the Chair of the Olympic Solidarity Commission.

His passion for sport was boundless and his outstanding leadership as President of PASO since 1975 inspired us all to strive for the betterment of sport around the world. He will be personally missed, never forgotten and immortalized by the legacy of his work in international sport. On behalf of the Canadian Olympic Committee, our deepest and heartfelt condolences to his family."
