AIBA Interim President Attends Asian Games

Jakarta, August 18th, 2018 - As the 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games kicks off, AIBA is pleased to have onsite its Interim President, Gafur Rahimov.

In his role as AIBA Interim President, Mr. Rahimov has had the opportunity to attend various meetings with key stakeholders from within the Olympic Movement.

Amongst the highlights, was his meeting with Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, President of the Olympic Council of Asia, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees and IOC member. Amongst the topics discussed in their meeting was the role of boxing within the Asian Games and the future development of the sport within Asia.

Gafur Rahimov, AIBA Interim President, commented : « It was an honour to meet with Sheikh Al-Sabah. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him for this successful event as well as the fantastic work he has been doing to further develop sport in Asia. »

This year’s Asian Games will welcome more than 10’000 athletes and 5’000 officials from 45 countries. The boxing competitions will be held from August 24th to September 1st with a total of 210 boxers from 31 nations to compete.
