4K Broadcast of Rio Olympics Available to NBC Partners - Sponsor Spotlight

(ATR) NBC Olympics will distribute footage from the Rio 2016 Olympics in 4K Ultra High Definition.

The footage will be available to NBC Universal cable, satellite, telco providers, and partners after a one-day delay. The content will be provided by the IOC’s Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and Japanese broadcaster NHK for United States based partners.

Footage available will include the Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, swimming, track and field, basketball, the men’s soccer final, and judo, as well as Rio scenic shots according to a release from NBC.

4K Ultra HD is an ultra-high resolution that displays images at over eight million pixels when broadcasting. It contains a resolution that is four times sharper than current high definition feeds.

"Since the London Games, OBS and NHK have been working together, experimenting on the future standard of 8K," Yiannis Exarchos, chief executive of OBS, said in a statement. "Substantial recent technological advancements have allowed us to to offer a 4K feed for a number of sports, down-converted from the original 8K, to NBC and other interested Rights Holding Broadcasters around the globe."

Paris 2024 Moves Closer to Bid Sponsor Target

AccorHotels will showcase the Paris 2024 bid worldwide.

The French hotel chain is the 11th sponsor for the Olympic bid. The contributions from the sponsorship mean that Paris 2024 has raised $24.5 million of their $33.4 million sponsorship goal. Paris 2024 said in a statement they expect the goal to be met in the coming weeks.

In exchange for Paris 2024 activation, AccorHotels will advise the bid in the hospitality sector during Olympic planning.

"Paris is a global leader in tourism and it’s great to have the backing of such a prestigious company from the international hospitality industry that is active in 92 countries," Bernard Lapasset, co-chair of Paris 2024, said in a statement. "AccorHotel’s expertise and experience in working in synergy with international sports is also a huge asset for our bid."

European Olympic Committees Adds Bakery

High performance athletes across Europe will be supported by baked-goods company Backaldrin in a new agreement.

Backaldrin currently works with the Austrian, German, and Jordanian Olympic Committees to provide goods and other support for the NOC’s athletes. With the new sponsorship the company will provide nutritional goods to athletes at EOC events as well as at a community level to all members of the EOC.

"Sponsoring professional and youth sport is an important part of our social responsibility and sustainable business practices," Harald Deller, chief executive of Backaldrin, said in a statement. "In sponsoring the EOC, we hope to reach out to elite athletes and young people in general and promote healthy eating habits as a cornerstone of both elite athletic performance and a healthy lifestyle."
