Following the various announcements made by the Swiss Federal Council, the Organising Committee is continuing its work to successfully organise the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny from 20 to 27 September.
After examining the health conditions and restrictions implemented by the Federal Council, in agreement with the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the Cantons of Vaud and Valais and the communes of Aigle and Martigny, the Organising Committee is moving ahead to finalise the organisation of the event.
Health considerations are absolutely vital for this edition of the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny.
The organisers of the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny and Swiss Cycling also are pleased to announce that the Swiss Road Championships will take place on the World’s circuit on 22 August 2020.
This will be a very important competition for riders and the Swiss public as well as a proper rehearsal for all the Organising Committee.
Grégory Devaud and Alexandre Debons, Co-Presidents of the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny Organising Committee:
"Over the last few months, we have not stopped working on the organisation of the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny. Today, we are continuing to prepare for our event. We are very grateful for the trust from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), local authorities, our sponsors, the huge number of volunteers that have registered and are very pleased about our cycling fans passion for our race and its exceptional circuit.
We need to remain cautious in view of the world health situation but the organisation of the Swiss Road Championships on 22 August 2020 on our circuit is a strong sign that will validate our approach and help us fine-tune our procedures.
Our thoughts go out especially to the Foire du Valais which cannot be held this year, but we will do our best to fly the flag high for our culture."
Patrick Hunger, Co-President of Swiss Cycling Management Board:
"We are pleased that the improvement of the health situation will hopefully allow the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny to go ahead. Various measures to promote Swiss Cycling at this event have already been taken. This positive development will also give our riders the chance to compete in the UCI Road World Championships in front of their public. We can hardly think of a better objective for them during this unusual season.
The Swiss Championships in Aigle and Martigny in August will give us a foretaste of the UCI Road World Championships. It will also be the opportunity for Swiss riders to display their skills with a view to being selected. In this context, the Swiss Road Championships promise to be especially attractive in all categories".
