FIFA has opened a process to invite various commercial and investment proposals in relation to the completely new club world cup tournament, which is launching for the first time in 2021.
On 24 October 2019, FIFA announced that the inaugural edition of this new tournament will be held in the People’s Republic of China following unanimous approval by the FIFA Council. Subsequent to this announcement, FIFA has received a high level of interest from companies potentially wanting to be involved in the new event, and, therefore, has invited investment proposals for the commercialisation of the inaugural event.
As a result of this, FIFA intends to explore and model various commercial and investment options that would best support the vision for this tournament as the pinnacle of global club football.
The invitation timetable, which runs until Thursday 19 December 2019 at 15:00CET, has been extended to entities that have the necessary financial and operational capacity together with experience in managing a football property of this magnitude, and the proposals will be evaluated over the ensuing weeks.
As part of the process, the new tournament will receive a strong and unique name and brand, and the format will provide unrivalled entertainment for fans, with the chance to see their clubs play in a competitive international event on a scale which has never previously existed.
The high quality of clubs and wide geographic coverage of the new tournament will provide a unique commercial platform which reaches a collective global fan-base in the hundreds of millions.
All revenues from FIFA’s new club world cup tournament will be redistributed across the entire football community supporting the development of football globally.
