(ATR)Gushwell Brooks, aradio talk show host and columnist in South Africa, tells Around the Rings his country would not want to be associated with Oscar Pistorius if he competed in a future Olympics.

Brooks, who also has a background in legal studies, covered the murder trial for Olympian Oscar Pistorius in South Africa. The double amputeewassentenced to five years in prison on Tuesday for the 2013 shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

The Olympian's defense team,ATRreporter Mark Bisson says,expects Pistorius to serve one-sixth of the sentence. This meanshe could be released on house arrest after 10 months.

Craig Spence, International Paralympic Committee spokesman, toldATRthat Pistorius would not be eligible to compete in its events for five years.The five-year ban includes two world championships and the Rio 2016 Olympics.
